Local practice notes
Charlottetown is PEI's primary family courthouse, serving Queens, Kings, and central/eastern PEI. The Supreme Court (Family Section) hears all family matters regardless of marital status — there is no separate provincial family court in PEI. The bar is small enough that judges know most regular family counsel by name, and self-rep parties get patient procedural guidance.
Duty counsel
PEI Legal Aid — limited duty counsel; book intake in advance.
Self-rep resources at Charlottetown
- Family Law Centre PEI — free walk-in procedural help

- Parenting After Separation (PAS) workshop — free, encouraged before contested parenting motions
- PEI Legal Aid — for low-income parents
✓ Family Law Information Centre (FLIC) on-site — free procedural help for self-represented parties. They can walk you through forms and the family-court process. They cannot give legal advice.
